About

My name is Dave Glason. I live in rural British Columbia. I'm a systems developer and designer, with some systems administrator and customer support tech thrown in. I also dabble in company ownership and am a member of my local chamber of commerce's board of directors. I have a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, heavy on the Physics and Mathematics, from UBC-O.

I've developed in several languages, C, Perl, PHP, Java etc and am now going the Ruby (Ruby on Rails) route. I tried it a few years ago and it was good then, but now - wow. I've also worked for a cable company as a network technician and systems analyst (small company, doing everything).

I've developed and supported various types of software from USB software with a GUI on a MAC to interact with a UPS, to Web and Small Desktop apps. The majority of software I work on is web based and includes everything from websites and drupal site configurations, to custom catalogs and online ordering systems and other unique custom applications. I also work on startup systems that have reached a breaking point and need to be re-jigged to get to the next level.

I'm a Linux fan, but think every OS has it's place. I prefer Debian based distro's because of the apt package management system. I especially like Ubuntu.

I also have an interest in robotics and firmware development. Currently I'm working with Arduino chips and learning about making them work!

I have run Okanagan Linux Solutions since 2004, but am consolidating that in to adanacs.com.

I am currently working on A Healthy Philosophy Inc. (http://www.ahealthyphilosophy.com).
